With a nomadic spirit and grounded soul, By Design singer-songwriter Alex Jude blends Americana and pop, through a timeless sound shaped by scars and break-through. After six independent albums, Jude’s latest work glances back at her deeply personal narrative of an unconventional path, arriving at a new chapter of self-discovery and peace. Born-and-raised in the Pacific Northwest, the fifth-generation vocalist/musician began writing songs at 13, processing teenaged heartbreak and loss with her guitar under the evergreens. Inspired by overlapping genres and songwriters like Patty Griffin and Jackson Browne, universal truths reflected in nature motivated her writing from a young age. Meanwhile, her lived pain and beauty created her signature vocal tension, familiar warmth and carefree rhythmic edge. After a short stint in Music City after high-school, Jude soon began traveling the world and got married, with self-penned songs tracking the 10-year journey – but a battle with auto-immune disease and painful divorce shook her paradigms. Now, with a fierce determination to experience life to its fullest, each song is like the soundtrack to the unfolding road trip of her story. Anchored by an open heart and deep faith, her rich roots-pop anthems remind listeners that life is not meant to be only endured, but to be lived in abundance.
